Kat Von D Shade + Light Contour Palette Review and Comparisons

So we started using the new Kat Von D Shade + Light Contour Palette and have nothing but good things to say about it. I love the variety of the colors here and have found myself using every single one for something or other, which is pretty rare for me! I feel like the colors work really well with my light skin tone (I'm a MAC NC20), the darkest color was a little overpowering but blended out nicely and gave me awesome, strong looking cheekbones! I love the concept of a cooler contour because it really creates a shadowy look rather than a sun kissed loo, which I can dig! The colors are super velvety to the touch and highly pigmented (swatches here swiped one to two times with my finger). The first three lightening shades are almost identical to Anastasia Beverly Hills contour palette. The main different between the darker shades of the two is that Anastasia Beverly Hills has slightly warmer shades. You can get this for $46 at Sephora, which I do think is a little pricey, but I can see myself using this on a daily basis. Swatches comparing the two palettes are below. Personally, although I love BOTH brands, the Kat Von D palette seems smoother and more blendable than the Anastasia palette. Which do you prefer!?

Packaging
5
As always, Kat Von D's packaging exceeds expectations! If there's any brand packaging I'd show off, it would be Kat Von D's hand drawn items.
Scent

Application
These apply so incredibly nicely. After having this for months, I can honestly say that I use this every single day, as it's one of the only contour palettes that doesn't pack in places or look muddy.
Pigmentation
As pigmented as you'd like for contouring and highlighting.
Comfort
The Kat Von D Shade + Light palette comes with the most velvety smooth highlight & contour products you'll ever touch. I don't notice them on my face once applied.
Longevity
My contour lasts all day, regardless of if I use a primer and/or setting spray.
Dupability (Originality)
4.5
Obviously, highlighting and contouring palettes are pretty similar across the board. However, Kat Von D's formula is unmatched.

Overall Score: 4.9

  1. I own the ABH kit and even though I can't speak for the KVD palette...I would choose the ABH kit every time because you can order refill powders! We all know that sad moment when you hit pan on your favorite shade and have to shell out $$$ for a whole new palette.
